For 101 years, the St. Louis Municipal Opera Theatre has delighted generations of theatregoers with effervescent local productions of beloved Broadway musicals. Heading into their 101st season with optimism, joy and a little old school razzle dazzle, the non profit theatre lovingly called The Muny kicks things off with their very own revival of the 1950 musical theatre classic Guys and Dolls, last performed on its hallowed stage 15 years ago!

A beloved mainstay of musical theatre magic in St. Louis, The Muny continues its 101st season with the musical that got the country's patriotic blood pumping long before the hip hop blockbuster phenomenon Hamilton ruled the the Broadway roost. First premiering on the Great White Way in 1969, Peter Stone and Sherman Edward's historical tuner 1776 garnered much critical acclaim, as well as three Tony and two Drama Desk Awards, for its gripping portrayal of the birth of modern America.

Originally broadcast on CBS in 1957, Rodgers and Hammerstein's spellbinding production took the nation by storm when the musical finally hit Broadway in 2013 America fell in love with it all over again.

Everybody cut loose! The toe-tapping 80s thrill ride is coming to The Muny in this brand new production directed by Tony-Award winner Chrisitan Borle. No stranger to a dance number or two, expect a delightful confection of some of the decade's biggest chart hits coupled with a tale of teenage expression in an oppressive small town. Adapted by Dean Pitchford from his own Oscar-winning screenplay, this version hews close to the 1984 movie. So get your sneakers on and start scoping out abandoned factories to practice your angry dancing - Footloose is on the way!

The largest outdoor theatre in America, The Muny plays host to seven large scale musical productions every year. The season, which runs through the summer from June to August, always attracts some really big names - past alumni include Yul Brynner, Angela Lansbury and Gene Kelly.
