A Muny premiere presentation!

The 2012 smash that took Broadway by storm finally makes its Muny premiere in the 2017 season! An uplifting and thrilling tale of standing up for your rights, we follow a rag-tag team of newsboys who go on strike for better pay in 1899. With the original movie starring a very young Christian Bale (yes, we know!), the talented cast of the Muny under the dedicated helm of acclaimed visiting director Chris Bailey (Into The Woods, Cyrano de Bergerac) present this riotously enjoyable musical to St Louis.

Based on the true story!

an electric story of the 1899 New York newsboys who made their living hawking papers, but in the face of rising prices and poor wages, started to make the headlines themselves by going on strike! Newsies is based on Disney's 1992 film (starring a young Christian Bale), which is in turn based on real events, and won two Tony Awards for Best Score and Choreography in 2012.

Displaying classic Broadway flair, Newsies is filled to the brim with spirited songs such as Seize the Day and King of New York in a defiant tale of feisty kids making a difference. Orphaned, homeless yet determined to succeed, New York's newsboys live urchin-like, dreaming of a better life. In the meantime, the popular and charismatic Jack and friends have got more than just dodging juvie hall on his mind. The newspaper editors are inflating their prices, meaning the newsies can't afford to sell them. Now is the time to pull together, create strength in numbers and protest! Join Jack on the adventure of his life as he finds the courage and the hope to change his destiny!
